To get accurate custom clothing measurements, use a flexible measuring tape, stand tall and relaxed, and have someone help, if possible, to ensure the tape is straight and snug, but not too tight.
Here's a breakdown of a few key measurements and how to take them:
-
Neck: Measure around the base of your neck, where a collar would sit. Put your index finger under the tape to give a comfort fit.
-
Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level and snug. Take a deep breath and relax.
-
Waist: Measure around the natural waistline (the smallest part of your torso), usually just above the belly button.
-
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, usually about 8 inches below the waist, keeping the tape level and snug.
-
Back Length: Measure from the back collar bone straight down your back to the desired lenght. For riding vest or jackets also measure while sitting.
-
Sleeve Length: Measure from the point of your shoulder (where the bone is) to 1.5” past the wrist bone, with your arm bent.
-
Shoulder Width: Measure from the point of one shoulder to the point of the other shoulder, across your back.
